Draught-free and insulated
The wood on the cat flap ensures that the soft rubber will always keep its shape and the flap remains draught-free for years! By the way, our cat doors for installation in walls have two flaps: one on the outside wall and one on the inside wall. This creates an insulating layer of air between the two flaps … very comfortable.
And if the wind gets too high, there’s the solid wooden locking door that comes as standard. Then the cat door is sure to be shut tight, even in the worst weather.
On top of all that, wood is a natural insulator so the door won’t feel cold at all.
No electronics
Not a cat door with microchip detection because delicate locking mechanisms do not guarantee the durability we have in mind with our cat doors. Still, the same result: no strange cats in the house.
A cat door with a transparent flap invites strange cats to come in, but the Tomsgates cat flap is not transparent: a strange cat will not see the black flap with wooden slats as an entrance but as a grille, decoration, … and will pass by.
And for your cat, it is her own safe secret door. So simple.
Securely locking
Each cat door comes with a 2 cm thick solid wooden night door that locks securely with a steel lock. You can be sure that door will keep your cat safely inside and protect against burglary.
By using wood on the flap, our cat door is also less conspicuous in your door or wall than a plastic door.

- The door can be made of wood, UPVC, steel or aluminium and can even be a composite door.
- Suitable for doors up to 5.90 in (15cm) thick: all normal interior and exterior doors, as well as screen doors with thin metal panels or extra-thick doors.
- Profiled doors are suitable. Our wooden frames are solid and can be touched up on installation.
- If your door has a special finish, you can paint, varnish, … yourself the ‘natural’ finished cat doors.

A wooden cat flap in glass is absolutely beautiful ! Not only beautiful, but it’s also draught-free, insulated and safe! We know it’s not easy to organise, but we’re more than happy to help you.
How to install a cat door in glass
A door in glass is done in 3 steps:
- Look for a glazier in your area who can replace your glass with a glass pane with a rectangular hole. Not all glaziers take on this kind of work but contact us if you don’t find anyone because we can recommend glaziers who will be happy to do it for you !
- Order the cat flap in advance on our website so that it is delivered by the time the glazier comes to take the measures. The glazier will then measure both your glass pane and the cat flap. Nothing can go wrong.
- When installing the glass, the glazier will fit the cat flap, which takes only a few minutes.
All done!
If it doesn’t work or gets too expensive and you don’t have doors to install a cat flap? Consider a cat door through the wall … a very comfortable solution.

Maximum insulation thanks to the double flap: one on the external wall and the other on the internal wall, creating an insulating layer of air between them. The most comfortable cat door.

1. Wall materials
Tomsgates cat doors have a robust tunnel so that they can be installed in brick, concrete, wood, crepi, glued bricks, stacked bricks, timber frame, wooden front facades, Trespa, … Our doors have been fitted in walls of any building material.
2. Insulated walls
Tomsgates doors are adaptable to walls up to 16.93 in (43 cm) and we also have a version for extra-thick walls of super-insulted houses, historical buildings, …
3. Take piping and cabling into account:
Usually they run vertical, from bottom to top. So do not position your cat door under a switch, tap, ….. If in doubt, please contact us.
Installation may seem like a chore but we have been sending our wall doors around the world since 2014 where they are installed by customers themselves. We only get compliments on the ease of installation. Our installers will be happy to do it for you in Great Britain, California (US), Belgium and the Netherlands. You can simply order the installation along when you order your cat door and we contact you to make an appointment.
If you did want to remove the door after many years, it is a job of 2 times half a day to reseal the hole in the wall.

Fit your cat door yourself or have it installed?
In Great Britain, Belgium, the Netherlands and California (US) we have installers, so you can include the installation in your online order. We will then contact you a few days later to arrange the installation date. Very comfortable: we install with little dust and take all waste with us.
But to be honest, if you can make the hole in the door or wall yourself, the rest of the work is very easy. No fiddling about with small, fragile parts: only high-quality materials that are a pleasure to work with. A fun project for a handy DIYer.
Is wood suitable for a cat flap ?
Indeed, because wood gives you a lot of pleasure: it insulates, looks good, feels nice, etc.
And our wood is low-maintenance because it has been treated with oil, so that dirt cannot enter it. So if you polish the pet door a few times a year with a cloth with some oil, it will stay in excellent condition for years.
